EP57: Define Your Target Market
Last week, I believe we came to an agreement that if anyone - you in particular - we’re to narrow your marketing to include only those that have an interest in what you offer, you will fare much better than anyone just using the shotgun effect, trying to get everyone with one shot.
Do you understand?
It’s all about delivering a message to only those that want to see it or hear it.
I mean …
Literally, you do it yourself every time you go online and type anything in a search bar, or on google search.
No one goes online and looks at EVERYTHING at one time, right?
You decide you want to find something and type in the words or phrases you think most represent what you want.
If you had a dog and wanted to learn how to train it, you might…
Type in:

And if you wanted to find a target market you might…
Type:

You're looking for something that answers your question.
Google gives you choices too.
You pick the one that best delivers on your request.
Your niching down further - narrowing your market - making it easier to find an answer.
So, if you wanted to market to only those that need your product or service wouldn’t it just make sense to target them too?
Of course, it would.
And by targeting them, I don’t mean like 20 to 45-year-old females who like making money online.
Or 25 to 40-year-old males who like Tony Robbins and Gary Vaynerchuk.
That will not be good enough.
You have to do more.
You have to find what they personally want or need as well.
Such as…
25 to 40-year-old males who like Tony Robbins and Gary Vaynerchuk, and are struggling to target a niche.
The phrase “are struggling to target a niche” digs a little deeper into your niche or the people you want to reach.

Or

Finding a need or pain point will take you closer to who you want to help.
And if you want to help people market their services online, you could target almost any aspect of marketing and still find a segment of people that need your help.
Such as…
Email
Segmentation
Copywriting
Newsletters
Web page copy
Landing pages
Sales pages
Blog posts
Podcasting
Niche research
Advertising
Social media posts
Content calendars
And the list just keeps on going, because there is an endless amount of things that can and will frustrate and confuse people online.
They ALL need help and if you will just take the time to search for them and let them know YOU have had the same problems as they are experiencing, and overcame it, they will WANT to learn what you know.
Not ALL of them though.
Just the ones that REALLY want the answers and are REALLY struggling.
THEY - are the ones you want to be in front of.
A lot of people will just click, out of curiosity, and LOOK and KICK the tires to see if it would interest them.
Your message they see, read, view, or listen to, will further segment those who need what you offer, and REPEL everyone else.
This is just one podcast episode. It cannot and will not do justice on this subject.
This topic of targeting the right person is important.
How important is it?
Important enough to define whether you are successful or a failure.
Seriously…
If you don’t take the time to find out how to get in front of the right people, you will not be ALL you want to be.
You WILL spend more on advertising.
You WILL spend more time in front of people who don’t care about what you have.
You WILL doubt your abilities.
And…
Eventually, you WILL quit.
I don’t want that for YOU!
My mission has always been, and will always be, to help those who struggled as I did for a very long time.
I didn’t deserve it.
And neither do you.
It may not be finding your niche that is your problem today.
Your issue could be almost anything at all, and it is causing you pain, frustration, and headaches.
Choose to change that.
Everything we do is based on the choices we make.
Some are good, and we reap the benefits.
And then again, there are those other ones, where we reap despair and anguish.
I want to help you have more of the good ones, and avoid as many of the bad ones as possible.
But I cannot do it alone.
And neither can you.
If you take a chance…
You will find that success follows success.
Learn from those that have struggled, overcame, and moved forward.
Stop letting the unknowns of marketing hold you back.
There are a LOT of moving parts in marketing.
I would be LYING if I told you it was easy to build a successful business online.
It is NOT easy, but with help, the struggle becomes bearable.
Knowledge builds, and ignorance destroys all the good that can be accomplished.
At every turn, there are more questions. Questions that need to be answered. Questions that can be answered.
Growing a business starts out fun and exciting. Remember when it was all you thought about. How it made you feel important and how you were fulfilling a purpose.
Your purpose!
It can still be that.
I know.
I almost lost all hope.
My flame was close to waning and the darkness was approaching.
It happens all the time.
Too many good ideas have been lost to unanswered dreams.
Dreams that expired.
What about yours?
What is the shelf-life of your dreams?
Will it expire?
It could very easily do so.
I ask to encourage you to question what you are doing.
Question your mission.
Question your drive.
Question your motivation.
Will you struggle alone, or reach out for help and grow a business that makes you proud?
Only you can answer that.
Only you will do that.

If I had not DECIDED to ask for help, I would not be here to offer it to you.
Who will you help tomorrow?
I’ll talk to you again next week.
Be safe, be happy, be you!
