EP53: The Reluctant Entrepreneur

As strange as it seems, there was a time BEFORE the internet.

A time, before cell phones.

A time, before video games.

A time before MTV.

What?

I know, I know!

Because I lived through all of those times.

But I’m not unique.

Other people lived during the 50s and 60s and can claim to have lived before man ever stepped foot on the moon.

History.com

Again that was me too.

For many of you - those older than millennials – surely you have your own memories of before this or that.

Maybe it’s certain games or tv shows or movies that you can claim to outlive.

The point is this…

Before everything we can think of that is significant, life still kept going on.

People were still getting married, and divorced, though at significantly different rates.

People were still buying and selling things.

Life just moved at a different pace.

Some may say it was a slower pace.

A more peaceful pace of living.

And people were still afraid of change.

Today…

We see change happening all around us.

Will the Coronavirus keep us trapped another year?

Will Russia invade Ukraine? [Spoiler Alert - Yup, Russia Invaded]

Will there be something new that devastates the economy, threatening our jobs, our homes, and our lives?

Sadly, the answer to most of our questions will most likely be yes!

But the real question we should be asking, and answering is this.

What are we going to do about it?

What can we do?

We cannot stop Russia from threatening Ukraine. [Or from killing innocent civilians either]

But when it comes to our personal lives.

We can make choices that can transform our lives, from one of fear to one of strength.

Inner strength is created.

We are not born with it.

It is a skill that must be practiced.

I know, personally, that doing NEW things is not my mission in life.

I don’t wake up every day and tell myself, “I think I’ll do something new today”.

Most people are stuck in a rut.

They live their lives, doing a planned outset of things each day.

They execute those tasks and at the end of their day, they look back and decide how well it went.

Some days go as planned.

Other days, not so much, but there are ways around those bumps in the road.

If you look back on your life, over just a few short years, what does it look like?

What does it feel like?

Besides the Coronavirus and its complications, you know, those bumps in the road, what does your life feel like, really?

Is it what you planned to be doing when you started thinking about this great future you would be enjoying?

Is it better?

Is it worse?

I don’t ask these questions to depress you.

I ask, to impress upon you, that your life is YOUR LIFE.

You are the engineer that is directing the train of life you are on.

YOU!

Just you.

It’s yours to enjoy or to cry over.

Before I move on, you may be asking yourself what you can do to change what seems to be an unchangeable life!

First things first.

It just feels that way.

It’s an illusion.

Sort of like the story about the “Oracle”, “The Easy Way”, and “The Hard Way”.

We have simply just let ourselves stop dreaming.

As children, we can live extraordinary lives full of adventure, and full of intrigue.

But as we grow older, the world, the people, the environment all around us begins to take control.

Want a job - do this!

Want a spouse - do that!

Want a house - do something else!

Want a happy life - ??? - what!!

Many times we have just hunkered down trying to get all the things in life we expect ourselves to have, we forgot to live our lives.

We FORGET to live our lives!

Instead of steering our lives, we ended up following other people's ideas of what our [your] life should be.

Until one day…

You wake up and you are not living the life of your dreams.

You are stuck.

So you ask, “what now?”

That’s THE question.

For me, because I’m here to help you get control of your marketing, so YOU can have a better business and life, I’m inclined to lean towards helping you do just that.

But, that is NOT the only answer.

Creating a business, that allows you to survive hard times, and have control of your finances, and future is ideal.

But not everyone will want to start a business, especially when life just kicked their “Arse”.

So…

I believe the best time to safeguard your finances, is when you already feel confident. Sort of like, the best time to find a NEW and better job, is while you are still employed.

Otherwise, you’re forced to worry and in such a hurry, that you will start looking for those “Easy Buttons”.

Know what I mean?

As the conductor of your train, getting off of one train track and onto another one ALWAYS starts with you still on a track.

Likewise, starting a side-hustle or full-time business enterprise is still best done while you are still employed.

Just remember, starting a business is not easy. It will take a lot of work and intense thought to make it start working for you.

Today’s podcast is already running pretty long.

We will have to pick up on this topic of starting a side-hustle again next week.

I believe it is very important that each family must have some way of bringing in supplemental income.

Let’s make 2022, “The Year of Change”

Remember - “Transformation Starts With You!”

Until next week, stay healthy, be well, and be yourself.

Really - BE YOURSELF!
