EP71 - Over the Top - Trailer Episode

Whether you’re new to online marketing or a veteran marketer, I’m pretty sure you can appreciate how difficult those “supposedly” easy marketing ideas actually are.

You know what I mean, right?

Every week, it seems like a new course on how to do everything marketing comes out.

They usually start rolling out right after one of “our favorite gurus” - I’m using air quotes - starts marketing a new - or new to us – product, course, or membership.

It seems like - all of a sudden - everyone somehow just had the same idea.

Isn’t that funny?

Isn’t that SPECIAL?

Maybe not so much!

But it is just the way it has been for decades - yup decades - like multiple 10-year segments of life you’ll never get back.

These gurus just keep repackaging the same old stuff in fancy new ways, hoping to catch some people snoozing.

And it works quite well for a few of them too.

.
.
.

You know…

Everyone needs to sell things to make a living, and I get it.

A business without income is just a hobby.

I just wish the things that get sold, actually help people get what they are paying for.

An email course should help people become experts at email marketing.

They should learn how to structure the emails correctly so people want to read them.

They should be formatted so they read comfortably on a mobile device.

You shouldn’t have to pinch your screen to zoom in to read that - really small text.

Maybe I’m the only one that hates that.

Sometimes we get emails from gurus and they assume I just want everything they have in their arsenal.

They don’t ask - they just send me the offers anyway.

Like this one below:

I think they are still living in the last decade because most everyone I know HATES getting spammed.

I do, and I know you do too.

So why do you think they still spam us daily?

I blame it on the education level many of our marketers have. They went to the wrong, school of hard knocks.

Most of them only know what they have been taught. Taught mostly by the long-time guru that still wants to believe in old-time techniques.

This podcast “Online Marketing That Works” - brought to you by Mkt2online.com is sharing ideas and techniques that work today.

You may be surprised that there are still many older style techniques that do still work quite well. They were abandoned by the new shinier techniques that many gurus implemented to help them build their brands.

They gave them cute names to make them appear more important, and more expensive.

While all along, many of these are still just re-branded marketing techniques that have always worked.

Let’s not get confused, marketing online is a BUSINESS.

It must be treated as such.

We ALL know that most online businesses fail within the first year.

ALL business is hard. Brick and Mortar businesses fail just as much.

Businesses MUST follow known business practices - if they want to succeed.

So, let’s be real for a moment.

If you’re not making money from your business, it is just a hobby.

Nothing wrong with having a hobby. We all need distractions from the daily grind - right?

But if you want to be a marketer.

If you want to take an idea you have - use it to help others - and in turn supplement your income, then you absolutely must become business savvy.

You have to learn how to market correctly.

It ALL starts with knowledge.

You know the saying.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

And as Spider-Man made famously, “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibilities”.

Responsibilities, such as:

  • Knowing how to share your messaging and ideas with people, without spamming them.
  • ...without coercing them.
  • ...without making them feel less than they are.

Becoming a voice for the people like many influencers has its responsibilities too.

Using your fame and celebrity status to only make money, is not the way to be “all you can be”.

Learning how to ethically influence people, help them live better lives, and to help them become better people, is a skill that always results in good.

.
.
.

By the way...

There is nothing wrong with recommending a product of yours, or one you are an affiliate for if it truly is a GOOD product or service, that leaves the user better off than they were before they purchased.

Never would or should we recommend any product a person cannot afford.

Even if the product is right for them.

Even if the service would help them overcome the problem they are experiencing.

If they would suffer financially, they should be encouraged to NOT purchase.

Instead - Recommend that they start saving for the product, course, or service. Come back later, when they can comfortably invest the money.

Even better, if you have free content that could help that person overcome some of their issues, then share it with them.

Don’t just leave them hanging.

Don’t forget, just because they come with an email address, does not mean that are any less of a person.

They are just as human as you and I.

They deserve to be treated with compassion, dignity, and empathy.

There is not one person I know who was not made better by the help of a friend or colleague. Free of charge.

And along this course of thinking…

Why???

For the love of all that is good and right in this world, do marketers continue to market products costing thousands of dollars, only to promote them for a fraction of their cost?

If you can market a $3,000 product for 80% off - and sell it for $600, then stick a $600 price on it and sell it for that.

Who do you think you are fooling anyway?

People purposely watch your webinars and Zoom trainings to find out what the real price is.

If they cannot afford the REDUCED price, they know they just need to save and wait for the next promotion.

Wouldn’t it just be easier for EVERYONE if marketers just played fair with everyone?

There are still many brilliant and highly influential marketers, out there, that I believe could be helping more people, if they wanted to.

This podcast is meant to help out all those marketers that cannot afford to pay for all the SHINY programs that seem to show up during the weirdest of times.

Like Black Friday, the 4th of July, and my favorite, the marketer's birthday.

This podcast is built for you.

The training and subject matter are what I wish I had had when I started.

Some of the knowledge I share has cost me thousands of dollars to learn. [Not all at one time - but over the years - while in that valley of despair - over and over again]

I learned a long time ago, that if I just got out of my own way, and started following people that do exactly what I wanted to do, I would learn more, quicker, and in the end, far less expensively in the process.

So if there is anything you wish you knew how to do, but we’re afraid to ask, or you just could not afford to pay for, then ask away.

If I know the answer, or can easily find it for you, I would be thrilled to do it.

It’s called paying back.

In time … You too will help others do what once was quite difficult to do yourself. You learned to do it, then mastered that skill, and can now easily share it with others.

I post new episodes weekly, every Monday morning. [Except this one - released on a Sunday evening on July 3rd. Happy 4th of July to you all]

Join us.

I think you’ll like it.

And if not…

It’s your podcast.

Change it!

Let me know what you want!

You just might get it.

Bye for now.
