EP98: Marketers Unite
Last week, as you know, I talked about how business can imitate life, along with all the ups and downs that go along with it.
Because of my recent divorce, I had allowed myself to miss posting a few podcast episodes. Showing that life definitely can affect business.
So I thought, if it can happen to me, how many others [you guys], are letting life direct your business as well?
This is why I am releasing this episode early, on a Sunday.
I mean we're all trying to help as many people as we possibly can, right?
We are building businesses to have an impact on this world we occupy.
And when I say “world”, I’m referring to your area of influence that others look to you for advice and help.
This world of influence is ours to build up or destroy.
Yeah…
We get to choose…
But…
Sometimes…
SOMETIMES…
It feels like we no longer have a choice.
Everything we do has a cause-and-effect relationship with our business.
So, let me ask you...
How are you doing?
As we know all too well, our idea of freedom and business is constantly shifting around us like sand on a beach. Each low and high tide erodes and builds up that beach.
Likewise, we can see our country [USA] shifting as well.
Prices for everything seem to be going up way higher than in pre-pandemic times.
Food
Clothing
Insurance
Rent
Mortgage interest
Gas
Etc...
Just to name a few things that are taking more $ from each one of our limited spending budgets.
While all this is taking place, no one is asking how we as people and business persons can just keep paying even more.
Most people don't get cost of living pay increases.
And if they/you do…
Then you know all too well, that it does not even meet the need. And how could it?
As a business, what can you do to keep yourself afloat and in the black, while the world around us keeps changing dramatically?
Do you raise prices as well?
Do you offer payment plans to make your offerings more affordable?
Do you promote your offers more often to bring in more revenue?
I'm not sure if there is any one strategy that can ever outpace our economic conditions right now.
However...
I know our neighbors, friends, and family suffer in many ways.
You may be as well.
If you are a new marketer with one foot online and the other still working for the man, you know all too well that managing both can be difficult.
Not impossible, but difficult.
Today's podcast is not about me giving you answers. Instead, today I am asking you, my listeners, whom I appreciate, to let us all know what you are doing to make your business stay profitable amidst the ever-changing times we find ourselves in.
Together as marketers, we can help one another overcome adversity.
Something you may be doing, right now, can possibly help struggling marketers overcome similar problems.
Likewise, explaining how as a marketer you are being affected by conditions beyond your control, can possibly give others the motivation to offer helpful advice too.
I know times are tough for everyone.
And, we're all in different places in our business lives. Sharing the good, bad, and ugly parts would help a few, and motivate all.
"Sharing is Caring"
So, all I can do is ask each one of you, my friends, whether you're listening now or in the future, or possibly reading/listening from my blog, to do your part.
Which is…
Share how you are being affected, and what you are doing to overcome it.
I feel a sense of belonging when I think of myself as a marketer. Belonging to a group of pioneers seeking to pave their way, and live their dream.
But this membership also has a cost.
Far too many good people have given up their dreams.
The struggle became too much for them.
Just like my divorce affecting me, others are struggling for other reasons, too numerous to count.
As marketers, we sometimes compete with each other, and sometimes we collaborate for a common good.
Today, I am asking each marketer that can hear this message, to collaborate together, with their knowledge, to help their fellow marketers continue on.
Just because you may be doing well today, does not speak to the future.
Mighty businesses have failed under less diverse circumstances.
If any one of you would like to talk to me, I would be willing to do so. I want each one of you to succeed in making your dreams come true. Even more, I don't want to see any failing marketers left behind, not if I can do anything to help.
That's it.
My plea is for everyone to do what they can to help their fellow marketers remain marketers.
They say it takes a village.
I believe it to be true.
As marketers, you are already members of this village.
We are members doing what we love because we too were inspired by the work of other marketers.
Let's continue inspiring others to succeed as well.
Until next week.
Be strong and mighty.
Take care and be well.
