EP32: Fear of the Unknown!
I am pretty sure every person listening to this podcast or reading the blog post it will be attached to, has had a moment of clarity when they stopped what they were doing and seriously considered whether their business was worth it.
In other words, is the business doing what it was built to do?
Does it help the people that you're trying to help?
Does it inspire others to accomplish their goals?
Is it paying for itself?
In other words, does the business make money and can it sustain itself, or are you having to keep working a day J. O. B. to keep the businesses bills paid?
You know, the email service provider, your website hosting, your internet connection, and all the other support services that keep you doing what you do.
Not sure about you, but I did quit on my business a long time ago. I just felt like I was spinning my wheels, and nothing was working for me.
You might know that feeling.
You may even be feeling that way right now?!
Here you are young, (in your marketing experience) and it shows. You’re telling everyone all about how you’re going to change the world all by yourself. But the more you keep telling people that, the more you notice they have heard that line before. And you’ve been saying it for a long time.
In all this time you’re still doing the same things.
Nothing much is really changing. You're spending more but not making more.
As I said, I’ve been there and it is not pretty.
I had to quit because I was not learning anything that would ever change my future.
I had done everything I knew to do, and it just wasn’t good enough.
Not by a long mile.
You could have written a book about everything I DID NOT know.
I was stuck.
I did not know, what I did not know!
And I did not know where to get the knowledge that would make a difference in my business.
How about you?
Ever gone searching for knowledge and all you kept finding were the big-time gurus promoting all their vast knowledge and tried and true plans and tactics?
Today, when I look around, I can see that it would be easy for others to come to the same conclusion.
The same promises gurus made when I started are still the same ones being made today.
I was watching a webinar the other day where a very popular and huge guru kept making it seem like he was going to change the course of the viewer's lives, IF they purchased his course and let his company automate almost all of the business for them.
Basically, he was selling a course so he could develop residual income, while not really teaching the customers how to build their own business.
His company would partner up with them and run the show.
This is not how you build a company online. He had convinced numerous people to let him run their business.
In a REAL business, the Owner [that would be YOU] must oversee his or her destiny. You simply cannot let anyone take control of your business.
Instead…
You must establish a brand and find the people that YOU can serve.
Yes, serve, not take.
Successful businesses solve problems. They create solutions that satisfy the wants of their prospects.
Far too often, new marketers will hear something that sounds really good to them, almost too good to be true, and they will LEAN IN.
They will abandon everything to follow this new IDEA.
I know, I have done that far too often myself.
And that’s exactly why I’m telling you, that if you’re getting distracted, and losing focus, because every 5 minutes, or so, there’s another “shiny dream” being delivered to your email box, and your clicking and looking far too often, you have to stop.
They are not your friends.
They are not there to help you.
Far too often they will take your money, deliver half-baked goods, and you're left scratching your head.
The solution is simple.
Find a mentor that WILL help you get on track.
There are a FEW good marketers that DO care enough to deliver training that is TRUE and TRUSTWORTHY.
When I was down and out, it was because I had gone chasing for knowledge in ALL the wrong places. I chased the shiny objects, bought the bogus courses, sat through webinar after webinar, and did not learn anything new.
It was not until I found my mentor, did my faith in myself return. My mentor showed me that I did actually have a pretty good base knowledge but there were still some things I lacked at.
I took the recommended training he suggested and started building upon my base knowledge.
It had to be done.
Deciding to trust someone who had built his own business from the ground up was the best decision I could have ever made.
Now I just shake my head, thinking about ALL that time wasted.
ALL the money that could have been made.
If YOU are on the verge of quitting right now or thinking about it, hold off and do this instead.
Talk to me!
I may not be able to help you. If I cannot, I’ll let you know and point you in the right direction.
I have a form below that will ask you a few questions. Nothing difficult. Just something to help me know who you are, what your goals are, and where you are struggling. I have left it up to you whether you want to talk on the phone. It makes conversations easier. Still up to you.
I'm just trying to help others be the best they can be right now. I hope you choose to reach out, even if you not struggling.
You WILL NOT be added to a list and sent spam. This is just me and you talking to each other. Nothing more.
Here's the form:
I truly wish someone had offered to do this for me.
Don’t let this go by without considering it. Even if you’re not thinking about quitting, I still would love to hear from you.
There is strength in numbers.
Let’s get to know each other. You never know where it may take you.
Until next week my friend.
