EP40: Dreamers Dream Doers Do
It’s Thanksgiving today as I work on putting this podcast together for you.
First and foremost, not everyone gets to have great thanksgiving celebrations with their families and loved ones.
For those of you that can, that is great!
For those of you that cannot, for one reason or another, I hope you can still celebrate the thanksgiving of the heart.
We should all try to find things that we can be thankful for.
We’ve all had a rough couple of years and it’s still not over yet.
But…
We’re still here.
Still working hard.
Doing things.
Making things happen.
I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been a dreamer for a long time.
Maybe you are one too, looking at where you are right now and seeing, hoping, dreaming of a possibility of a better tomorrow.
We all need to be dreamers.
It gets us out of bed and off to work each day.
Some of you work from home.
Many work for others.
And still, some of you ARE already living the dream.
Whatever that dream may be.
I was watching a Netflix movie called “tic tic boom” about a struggling artist, Jonathan Larson, who wrote the play “Rent” a highly celebrated play of over 12 years.
In the movie based on his life, Jonathan was a very talented “Dreamer”.
He struggled as many of us do.
He fought hard to overcome problems, both personal, and professional.
He had to listen to people try to side-track him from his one true love, being a playwright.
He even almost gave it up, except for the kind and wise words of his best friend.
When Jonathan, speaking to his friend, said “but you gave up your dream of being an actor”.
His friend kindly said “...do you know how many actors there are in New York? But there is only one Jonathan Larson.”
His friend believed in him, even more than Jonathan did.
And so, Jonathan went on to write the plays for Tic Tic Boom and Rent. As such, he received numerous awards.
Sadly Jonathan died the first day of Rent being on Off-Broadway. He never got to see it.
But…
He had a dream…
And he did the work.
I do know this, and this is my message for each one. You and I.
“Dreamers dream, doers do".
I celebrate the dream that my tomorrow’s will be better than my today’s.
That my next year 2022 will be better than this year 2021.
That begins with a dream…
… but it is the DOER in me that will make it happen.
Yes, we dreamers love to dream of possibilities… but it takes doers to build upon that dream and turn it into something tangible.
We all have struggles in this life we live.
Struggles in business.
Struggles in relationships.
Struggles doing what is right.
The only way to overcome struggles and take a dream and make it become real is to start doing things that make a difference.
Tackle your problems one at a time.
Whatever they are.
Take a course if you have to.
Read a book if it helps.
But DO something!
These are YOUR DREAMS we’re talking about.
They are great to have, and we ALL need them.
But they only get you started in a particular direction.
It is the hard work you do that transforms dreams into reality.
So…
Do. The. Work.
Remember, just like Jonathan Larson, there is "Only One You".
We ALL Need:
Your Voice,
Your Message,
Your Help.
And hey, share with me your dreams of a better tomorrow.
I would love to hear them.
Check out the links below.
That’s all for now.
Until next week, my friend.
Take care and be well.
