EP35: Content Creation Ideas

Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to spend a few minutes with me.

Today we’re talking about Content Creation.

For me, that is the content for this podcast you’re listening to right now, and for my other entities, I own.

All my content is built around the core concept of helping fellow marketers [just like you] succeed online amidst the enormous amount of conflicting content about marketing online.

Gurus and other disillusioned marketers have littered the internet highway with so much rubbish that it’s difficult to find the real truth anymore about marketing.

It was what kept me struggling for such a long time.

So it is important that the information we share with our people be good and accurate.

Where do the ideas and topics for content come from?

I’m sure each one of you has your inspiration to bring to mind content ideas so you can share them with others.

For me, I get a vast majority of my ideas from the content I have studied in the past and the content I am studying right now.

Currently, I am going through a paid workshop for the “Art of Email”.

The Art of Email is the brand new updated and renamed release of “Autoresponder Madness” from Andre Chaperon of tinylittlebusineses.com

Andre and his partner Shawn, have completely updated the course to make it fresh once again. Not that it was ever not fresh. But things change and they changed their product to continue being innovative.

Andre is the one that innovated a brand new way to communicate with people that let them feel comfortable and yet informed, instead of the old way of sell, sell, sell that was and still is the norm in the standard (old outdated way) of email marketing.

Below is their CORE Belief:

If you can find a group of people who have a problem and are willing to pay money to solve that problem, and you solve it for them, they’ll pay you money.

The creator believes that your audience isn’t there to serve you.

You serve FIRST.

Creators create customer-funded businesses, where 100% of funding comes from your customers and clients; your True Fans.

It’s a simple win-win dynamic:

  1. Serve first,
  2. get paid (well) and earn financial freedom as a result.

This dynamic means you are completely aligned with the needs of your customers — because the people you are serving are also the people who are giving you money for the work you do. They are giving you money because they are getting something they want in return.

So I’m sure in my upcoming podcast episodes I may be dripping some Art of Email references. You will thank me later.

I also read a lot.

Sometimes a book or two a week.

Not ALL related to marketing.

I like fiction too.

But I do read a huge amount of marketing books.

I have to.

The world continues to evolve, so I continue to learn as well.

No matter what you do for a living or what you share online, it should be something that helps others.

As I learn new things, I honor that knowledge by sharing it with others.

As you develop your business and start looking for ways to share your knowledge, you will need to do it well.

Provide the best information that you can. Help others overcome diversity and struggles.

Show them, through the content you share, that you are knowledgeable and someone worthy of getting to know.

When I still struggle with things to say, I usually stop and look around me to see if there is anything I can see that inspires me.

Today I listened to a friend's podcast. Nick Warren has a podcast based on his website.

On his podcast, he helps artists and creators get in touch with their origin stories. Nick knows that once you can identify your origin story, then others will be able to know you and have an idea how you can help them.

I went through Nick’s course, “Tell Your Story” and once finished, I put my Origin Story on my about page of Mkt2online.com.

It was all inspired by Nick and his skill of helping others reach inside and reveal their story, their origin story, in 500 words or less.

HERE is where you can find the course. I am absolutely sure you would learn a thing or two. I know I did.

Anyway, back to content.

So, what have you done today that you can share with others?

What are you reading that would be of interest to a customer, subscriber, or as a post on your blog or social media.

We cannot always be selling stuff. Nothing repels people more than constantly being sold to.

And yet that seems to be the default way most marketers operate their “businesses” today.

So, you should mix up your content with 80% information and the balance can be commercial content if that is what you do.

The point is this, give good things to your people and they will stick around when you need to make money too.

The world is always trying to sell sell sell!!!

Don’t you be that way?

Share your best information with your people for free. Of course, you don’t have to give everything away, but even if you did, it would not prevent your TRUE customers from purchasing your products.

Marketing Gurus are constantly trying to capture people’s emails so they can email them over and over again to sell them something.

Instead, I promote the concept of treating even our prospects and subscribers as if they were customers already, whether money has changed hands or not.

Treat them well and respect their time.

Every time they read something of yours, they may not be paying you, but they are exchanging their time with you. Their time is valuable too.

As you share your content with them, they are getting to grow close to you, and look forward to reading your content.

Because you don’t knock them over the head asking for the sale every email, they recognize it. They know your email is a safe place where they can learn things from you, and not be constantly harassed.

When it is time for you to promote a product, course, or any other thing you sell, ask them to raise their hand by clicking on a link (tagging them), in effect they're saying YES, I’m interested in your thing, and it’s ok to send me your promotions.

This way the subscriber, or customer, is the one ASKING you to share the information themselves. They are initiating first contact instead of you doing it. Believe me, they know the difference.

Doesn’t that seem better than just blasting out email after email promoting nothing but products for sale?

That is exactly how I would encourage you to treat your prospects, subscribers, and customers, to turn them into raving fans.

So the next time you get ready to create some content to share, remember what is important to your people. That would be their time. Share things of value to them, get to the point, and do it without selling all the time.

They will appreciate it and show it when it counts.

Have a great day, keep safe, stay healthy, and keep coming back each week.

If you think you know of some improvements that could be made, let me know. Click on the link here.

Keep coming back for more great content next week.

Take care and be well.
